Writer of Fiction and Non-Fiction
My love for stories and books has been with me since childhood. I have always read a lot and had a fascination with the printed book. This fascination is twofold. On one hand, there is the designer in me who loves the craft of making books: working with the layout, paper, ink, binding, and the physical experience a book provides. On the other hand, there is the content itself: the story. Words take you on adventures, provide insights, spark interest, and largely shape how others think about something or someone. Our society is, in large part, built on stories.
Although I always loved reading, I never wrote as a child; that urge only developed at art school. The first texts I published were in my book Archivo De Pivo (2011), but these were entirely subordinate to the visual nature of the book. It wasn’t until 2015, when I co-founded Amsterdam Alternative with several others and we started producing a bi-monthly newspaper, that I decided to start writing for publication.
Of course, I realize that I still have much to learn and can always improve to grow as a writer, but that doesn’t matter. I hope to get a little better with practice, but more importantly, I genuinely enjoy writing both fiction and non-fiction. There is nothing more important than challenging yourself and doing things you enjoy.
Amsterdam Alternative
When I co-founded Amsterdam Alternative (AA) in 2015 with a few others and we decided to create a bi-monthly newspaper, it triggered me to write more. I had written before but never with the intention of publishing or integrating it into the work I was already doing.
The AA newspaper was the perfect medium to start experimenting, as it began fairly small-scale and the topics aligned with my interests and experiences.
I wrote the following articles for Amsterdam Alternative, among others:

Collective Ownership Webdocu
From 2022 to 2024, I worked extensively on the webdocu on collective ownership (www.collectiveownership.net)
). The webdoc combines video, photography, audio, and articles. It is a multimedia project that serves as an inspirational document, archive, and manual. More about this project can be found on this page.
The webdoc is one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever worked on because it brings together almost everything I find interesting and enjoyable, both creatively and substantively. This includes the design process, making the videos (interviews, editing, animation), the UI and UX, research, and, last but not least, writing articles.

Pak Mokum Terug: Housing struggle in a squatting city
The book Pak Mokum Terug (by Mokum Kraakt) is about reclaiming the city as a shared refuge for everyone, what that means, and what is needed to achieve it.
Mokum Kraakt is an Amsterdam collective of young activists and artists that combines squatting with artistic projects. This is their first book. It is co-published by Uitgeverij Spookstad and Starfish Books. Spookstad is a new publisher that emerged from the Amsterdam squatting movement and aims to publish radical texts in an accessible way.
Contributors include AFGA, We Are Here, B.Carrot, Harriët Bergman, Billie Nuchelmans, Daniel Loick, Ivo Schmetz, Soumeya Bazi, Rodrigo Fernandez, Werker Collective, Jimo, Hidaya Nampiima, Sorab Roustayar, Nina Boelsums & Bambi de Vries, Green Tribe, René Boer, Melissa Koutouzis, Elaine Michon, Wouter Pocornie, Hansfoto, and others.
I wrote an article for the book about free spaces.

Glamcult magazine
In 2021, Glamcult magazine invited me to write an article for issue #136. The theme of this edition was “Joyride” and focused on the revival of nightlife (post-COVID) and punk attitudes.
Glamcult is a progressive platform exploring the frontlines of avant-garde culture by collaborating with influential, carefully selected individuals freely and without yielding to authority.
20 years of Art & Autonomy
In November 2019, to celebrate OT301’s 20th anniversary, I created and published a photo book. After the more theoretical Autonomy by Dissent, I wanted to archive OT301’s history and energy through photography.
20 Years of Art & Autonomy contains over 700 photos of events in the studios (concert hall), cinema, gallery, kitchen, and glimpses into the ateliers and living spaces of OT301 members. It provides a good overview of life inside this remarkable free space in Amsterdam, though, of course, it is impossible to capture everything.
Besides coordinating, producing, and designing the book, I also wrote the foreword.
More information about OT301 can be found here.
